Mad Men: Predictions for What Won’t Happen in Season 5

Matthew Weiner has been extremely hush-hush about the upcoming Season 5 of Mad Men, to say the least. While we haven't even seen a teaser trailer with any new content, we feel confident that we know a few things that won't happen on the critically acclaimed drama. Here are all of the things we can be certain we won't see from the extended Sterling-Cooper-Draper-Pryce gang this year.

SPOILER ALERT: Can We Talk About Last Night’s Mad Men?

SPOILER ALERT: Can We Talk About Last Night’s Mad Men? Apologies to those of you who were somehow too busy to watch Mad Men last night (as if anything could be more important!), but I feel compelled to comment on the episode, so either cover your eyes and move along or get ready for a rant. Mad Men, as most of you are aware, is one of my all-time favorite shows. It's sexy, style-y, crammed with mystery and intrigue, and on top of all of that, not afraid to tackle some of the deep-seated issues inherent in its period 1960s New York setting. The time period is one of political unrest and social progress, and topics of race, war, feminism, consumer culture and the fast-deteriorating American Dream have all been touched upon, as has the subject of homosexuality, though only peripherally and subtly.

Make All My Mad Men Dreams Come True

Make All My Mad Men Dreams Come True If only I weren't so lazy, I would so enter this competition. You can win a chance to be on Season 3 of Mad Men. How awesome would that be? I envision myself drinking and smoking with Roger Sterling, or verbally sparring with Joan Holloway. You can pick from the scripts of existing monologues, film yourself and then send it in so people can vote on it. If they like you -- really, really like you -- you can win a walk-on role. In-freakin'-credible. That's better than the $1000 I could earn making myself sick on Hurl!. Way better. If you are more motivated than I am -- and if anything would motivate me to put myself on the screen, it would be this show -- go ahead an enter at the official Mad Men site. If you email me, I'll even vote for you. I can do that without leaving my desk. Just remember to thank me when you are lighting up with Don Draper. OK?

Top Chef Insanity Starts Now

Top Chef Insanity Starts Now The angels are singing! The new season of Top Chef kicks off tonight, and I got to chat with host/judges Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio about what to expect. Over the course of the (very) long conference call, P and T discussed their new judge, writer Toby Young, a pretty rad line-up of guest judges, their own guilty pleasures and the ingredient they're most sick of. They mentioned only one of the new contestants -- Fabio -- by name, so do with that info what you will. They also took on haters who have implied that Top Chef is an easy ticket to success for lazy chefs, and if you're so inclined you can read about what they had to say at NY Mag's Grub Street blog. Otherwise, read on for the highlights.

TWoP 10 Best Ways to Spend the Rest of Summer

It's August already, which means that the vast wasteland of summer television is about to turn into a flurry of new shows, and finally our favorites will be back on the air with new episodes. (I barely even remember where Heroes and Pushing Daisies left off, it's been so long!) So before your TiVo gets overstuffed with Knight Rider episodes, here are some things you should make a point to do ASAP. This way, you'll have something good to put in your mandatory "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" blog. Don't panic, people -- none of these ideas involve going outdoors. Heaven forbid. All you need is your computer, maybe Netflix and a DVD player to get started!
