Another Pussycat Doll?

Last night: Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family said that Cat Deeley should be nominated for an Emmy, and then she was! It was like magic!

The opening dance is either about the fiery Latin salsa or menstruation. All I know is there's a giant red dress that covers the stage. And the music gets weird and choppy at the end. I think Jordan gets the glamour spot, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Because he's got magical powers, Mr. Ferguson is back tonight, as is Sonya (yay!) and, of course, Nigel and Mary. Cat congratulates Jesse on his Emmy nomination and he reciprocates. The judge table gives Cat a standing ovation and Nigel lavishes her with well-deserved praise. Then he gets on to the other seven nominations the show got. Five of them were for choreography, and they get a video package. Mandy Moore! Boogie Shoes! Still reminds me of Sports Night! Mia Michaels! That routine that kind of reminded me of the Tom Petty "Don't Come Around Here No More" video! Stacey Tookey! Mad World! Oh, I really liked that one, as I remember. Travis Wall! I don't recognize this dance! And Tabitha and Napoleon! That amazing Alex Wong-and-Twitch dance that might have been my favorite part of the season! Right before Alex got hurt. Booo. Anyway, there you go. Emmy Awards, won't you?

All right, on with the show. Six of the twelve dancers will be in the bottom half. First up, Clarice and Jess. They were terrific last night. I think their dances were my favorites, and Jess was actually my favorite part of both of their dances. Jess stayed true to his style while doing both the hip hop and the jive. Lots of kicks were involved. Caitlin and Mitchell, meanwhile, were stuck with that Ugandan Children dance that didn't live up to its ponderous introduction. And I wasn't delighted with their "Piece of My Heart" dance either. Clarice and Jess are safe, and I'm fine with that. I'm starting to get really impressed with Jess. Caitlin and Mitchell are in the bottom.

So here's what's going to happen with the Top Ten. Starting next week, each of the contestants will do two dances on the performance episodes; one with a random partner from this season and one with an All-Star. Nigel somberly announces that Alex Wong snapped a tendon on his left foot on Saturday while auditioning for "another show." So he's injured again, which is awful. But he would have been an All-Star if he weren't injured! Unless he'd gotten that audition, probably. Man, poor Alex.
