Emmy Awards 2008: Live Blog

8:16 - Back from the first commercial break and Tom Bergeron and Ryan Seacrest are sitting on the stage in a mock diner booth from some show called Seinfeld. Then they unleash the Seinfeld clip reel that we are all familiar with. That business is done and the boys welcome Julia Louis-Dreyfus to the stage in a glittery salmon dress. She's making light of Seinfeld and gettin' a dig in at the Emmys (so irreverent!). Time for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Personally? I'm rooting for Jean Smart or Amy Poehler, but this whole category is nothing but fabulous ladies. Jean Smart won! OMG! OMG! I feel like this is kind of an upset. Aww, and as she walks up to the stage I can see the adorable Sally Field seated next to her TV son Kevin Walker (No, I don't know his real name! Get off my case!). Time for commercial break number two!

8:25 - We're back! Jeff Probst and Heidi are talking about influential women in the TV history. Heidi kisses Jeff on the cheek and he gets all flustered and it's terribly jokey. Now we're watching a clip from Desperate Housewives, where all the ladies are banding together to be mean to Nicollette Sheridan's character. This broadcast is all about back-handed girl power, people. Ooh, now the cast is on stage in a fancy living room set. This is neither here nor there, but Dana Delany is just to die for. Now Nicollette Sheridan is announcing the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in this whole slutty "I love men!!!!" voice. This category is tough, but I'm seriously rooting for Zeljko Ivanek for Damages. But that's just me. Everyone in this category is amazing. Holy crap, Zeljko won!!! He's seriously incredible on that show. If you've never seen it, rent the hell out of it this instant.

8:30 - It's Ricky Gervais! He's pretty funny, pointing out that he won last year without even being there. In the audience, Mariska Hargitay looks very pretty in a big ol' yellow dress. Gervais introduces a clip show of people accepting the award, and ending on Steve Carell accepting Gervais' award for him last year. Gervais is apparently pissed, and Carrell is in the front row. Oh, my god, Gervais and Carell are having a face-off. Gervais wants his Emmy back, but Carell is stony-faced. Gervais is getting all up in his grill. This is unbelievable. These guys are so good. And Carell finally pulls Gervais' Emmy out from under his seat. Fantastic. Gervais introduces the variety/talk/musical show directors. Aside from the directors of The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Saturday Night Live, I don't really care. And the guy who wins is... directing the Emmys? Fixed! Hey, Josh Groban's coming up! Commercials.
