Chuck vs. the Curse

Episode Report Card
Angel Cohn: C- | Grade It Now!

I cannot handle one more episode that involves Chuck and Sarah and a lack of communication between them. Is this what the rest of the season is going to be like? Them fighting about some stupid thing that they should have discussed prior to getting married and then making up all nice? Great. I'm just so glad that the show came back for this final arduous season. If that wasn't bad enough, this episode also featured some really egregious product placement and borrowed the plot from a terrible movie a.k.a. Date Night. And it didn't even have the bonus of Mark Wahlberg's abs to stare at.

So Casey breaks out of jail and is all bummed that Verbanski had to go into hiding, but decides to just get over it. They've got bigger things to deal with, like the fact that Agent Cunnings (Rebecca Romijn) is after the folks at Castle and wants to haul them in for treason and/or murder. The always wonderful Beckman gives them a bit of a heads up via Morse code messaging and they all head out on their separate ways to keep Omen out of the hands of those who want to take all of the databases in the world.

Casey joins Beckman to plan, while Morgan goes back to his apartment to wipe Casey's computer and to get Chuck's P.A.N.T.S. (Private Artifacts Never To Share) back. But once Morgan gets to the house, he runs into Alex and she ends up being somewhat charmed by her old beau and the two team up to distract the CIA agents at the house. They aren't together, but Morgan let's Alex into his P.A.N.T.S and she sees a picture of them and seems appropriately impressed.

Meanwhile, Chuck is having his weekly neurotic breakdown about how he's inherited the family curse because he's involved in some awful technology/government conspiracy and has to go into hiding. Sarah tries to talk him down from this ledge in a fairly logical manner, but once Chuck finds out that his sister is in danger, he goes rogue and pisses off his wife in the process.

Why is Sarah in danger you might ask? Oh, because she and Awesome have decided to have a date night and booked reservations using Chuck's OpenTable account so he could get the points. First, what kind of spy books using his real name on OpenTable that can be tracked? Second, do we really want to do the whole mistaken identity thing? Apparently we do. So Ellie and Awesome have decided to spice things up by pretending to be spies for real, but Cunnings's team thinks they are the Bartowski's and abduct them. The duo calmly go along with it, until they realize that neither of them planned this role-playing kidnapping and then they freak out. They still end up in the hands of Cunnings and Awesome nearly gets his face burned off. But Ellie's pretty crafty-ish and stalls until Chuck arrives and gives Cunnings the Omen virus she wants, instead of the fake that everyone thought she should get.

Sarah and Casey show up and rescue the Bartowski siblings and Awesome, and then take Cunnings back to Beckman for some interrogation. It all seems well and good, and Sarah lectures Chuck about not leaving the house on a solo mission because he's incompetent and they make up. Until the virus strikes and apparently every computer in the world gets wiped. Even the ones with the last several episodes of this show? One can only hope.
